About Jim Karrh PhD

Through his consulting, speaking, research, writing and training services, Jim Karrh, Ph.D. helps client organizations attract, retain and serve customers profitably through better marketing and messaging. Dr. Karrh also serves as a Consulting Principal with DSG Consulting, experts in strategy implementation and sales enablement.

Jim’s clients have included startups, nonprofits, fast-growing Inc. 5000 companies and global Fortune 500 firms—in industry verticals as diverse as software, medical technology, higher education, consumer packaged goods, licensing and durable goods. Despite their differences, these clients shared several common needs: better customer focus and understanding; better coordination among teams in sales, marketing, product development and customer service; and more relevant, consistent messages in the marketplace.

His experience includes four years as the chief marketing officer of Mountain Valley Spring Company. Helping reinvigorate a 133-year-old premium niche bottled-water brand, Jim led a new integrated marketing and public relations program that within two years was named best among all members of the International Bottled Water Association.

A teacher at heart, Dr. Karrh served as a full-time university faculty member (achieving tenure) and still provides guest lectures and executive education. He has received awards for research and public service from the Marketing Science Institute, the Institute for Interactive & Direct Marketing and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s College of Business. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Journal of Advertising and the Journal of Marketing for Higher Education.

Jim earned the Ph.D. in mass communication and a B.S. degree in finance from the University of Florida. He also earned an M.B.A. from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, where he was elected Class Speaker by his classmates and named a Fuqua Scholar by the School’s Curriculum Committee.

A portion of writing and speaking proceeds go to support the Vascular Anomalies Center of Excellence at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
